#ALvoices: Share your opinions
In high school, many things are seen throughout the day, whether requested or not. You’re bound to face them, and some of those things are most likely going to be present on some type of technology. Most kids today partake in voicing their opinions on the rather infamous Twitter.
So what better way to catch the suggestions and voiced opinions from Wenatchee High School students than creating a “hashtag” for The Apple Leaf?
Twitter was constructed in the first place for recreation, fun, and to communicate with other users; however once The Apple Leaf adopted an account on the site, it was a great way to view the perspectives of the students that had accounts. Approaching the scene in 2013, The Apple Leaf used the hashtag “WHSappleleaf” for the concluding characters in the their tweets, whereas this year the Twitter coordinator, Evie Hyde, decided to spice it up a bit and use the hashtag “ALvoices” for the kids that had opinions they were willing to share. Additionally, the hashtags “ALsports” and “ALnews” will be used to share score updates, pictures, and other sports-related news, and news stories, respectively.
“We wanted something that was less general, so when people are looking for something specific they can search that hashtag,” Hyde said about the change.
This new and improved hashtag is encouraged to be used when The Apple Leaf asks questions over the site, trying to get raw and unedited feedback. It will hopefully provide the students with the assurance that they can give their insight and opinions without being condoned by their peers.
