Apple Bowl bleachers collapse
September 16, 2016
A row from Wenatchee High School’s bleachers collapsed at the first home football game on September 9th.
This is the second time a bench from the “Panther Pit” portion of the bleachers has broken, with a one-row difference in where the damage occurred. No students were seriously injured from the incident, and WHS staff are working towards a solution.
Athletic director James Beeson confirmed that the school district superintendent is now involved in the situation, as well as architects and engineers that worked in the design and construction of the bleachers.
While the student section is being evaluated, the student audience and band are being temporarily moved to the away side of the field, as well as the team’s home bench.
