Boys basketball secures first road win against Chelan
January 8, 2015
With 6.9 seconds left, junior wing Gavin Long converted a three-point play to seal the 44-41 boys’ basketball win over Chelan Tuesday night.
Long drove through the key and was fouled while making the shot, and sank the free throw for the deciding points for the Panthers.
WHS traveled to Chelan to play a non-league game against the Goats, which was closely contested throughout the game. This was the Panthers’ first road win.
Chelan’s senior post Hank Hollingsworth, a Cal Poly commit, blocked multiple shots and rebounded well for the Goats.
“We started off slow and were never able to put them away, but in the fourth quarter we made key plays to win the game,” Long said. Long was a leading scorer for the Panthers with 15 points.
The Wenatchee boys basketball team’s next home game will be against Sunnyside at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17.
