Kirsten Jarmin’s high school experience was filled with many good memories. She took the route of staying at the high school with all of her friends while doing a magnitude of AP classes.
“I like that people stayed on the AP track because it’s all the same people and my friends stayed at the high school,” Kirsten said. “But I wish I did the college because it is more lenient and you get to make your own schedule.”
Kirsten has taken AP World, AP Psychology, AP Economics, AP Calc, AP Biology, AP US History, AP Comparative Gov, AP Environmental Science, AP American Literature and AP Calculus.
“Honestly, doing the AP classes was the best,” Kirsten said. “I think the rigor of AP classes prepares you for college.”
All the seniors this year had to experience Covid during their ninth-grade year, so high school didn’t start off too normal.
“I think it was a little bit different than I imagined it because the beginning was during Covid so I didn’t get to experience a real freshman year”, Kirsten said.
A lot of Kirsten’s favorite memories have to do with the sports she played. There has been much success in her high school years, all the way from going to districts for cross-country junior and senior years and going to nationals for cross-country skiing.
“For cross country, it was the first time that Wenatchee had ever won in school history so it was really exciting,” Kirsten said.
Kirsten got to experience these achievements alongside her friends like Amara, Lauren and her sister Linnea, which made it all the better. The team bonded so closely made for some memorable years.
“It was a lot of fun because we were not favored to win, so it was fun to see all the girls pull it together on the day of districts and get the win,” Kirsten said. “I was captain that year so it made me feel so happy to see the girls have such an accomplishment.”
The meet was at IKE and the team rode the bus back which made it special because they could celebrate their successes together.
Kirsten is an involved student at Wenatchee High School and represents what hard work and dedication look like.
She was a part of cross country and track all four years while being captain for cross country junior and senior year. She has competed for her cross country skiing team all throughout high school and even went to junior nationals for it.
In Cross Country, the girls have an annual sleepover and this year it was at Kirsten’s house. They made sweatpants and had time to bond as a team, which was her favorite memory from cross country.
Senior year, she had the role of President for both Key Club and Random Acts of Kindness. A favorite memory from Key Club was cleaning up parks.
“In RAK, my favorite thing we do is the chalk out front where we do the positive messages,” she said.
RAK normally draws out inspirational messages by the front door at the start of the year, during teacher appreciation week and when school is almost out. She is also involved in the Honor Society and Math Honor Society.
Kirsten shouts out Diane Owen, Rachel Elderman, Luke Sailing and Scott Tiedeman for their help during high school.
“Elderman is sweet and understanding and always puts in extra work for helping after class,” Kirsten said about her AP biology teacher.
Kirsten gives advice to incoming freshmen and current students to take Tiedeman and Owen’s classes.
“I recommend taking the history classes with Tiedeman. He’s a really good teacher and I always enjoy his classes. And also Mrs. Owen, she’s super sweet and she’s the best,” Jarmin said.
“Kirsten is so sweet, so kind and always smiling,” Owen said.
Tiedeman also had a lot of kind words about his student.
“Kirsten has brought a lot of dedication, work ethic, curiosity and intelligence,” Tiedeman said. “I think she has grown in her ability to make connections and understand the world in a deeper plane.”
Lauren Miller is one of Kirsten’s closest friends and have been friends since seventh grade. They met because they had a lot of classes together and got close during cross country and track.
“I think we are really compatible in our goals,” Lauren said. “She’s really funny and she has a good sense of humor. I feel like our humor no one else would find it funny, so it works well.”
They both like to travel and went together on an Oregon coast trip.
“We got up at five AM and did a five-mile run together, and it was really cold,” Lauren said. “We were at the beach. We were pretty hot, so we wanted to jump in the ocean. It was still dark at this point because it was so early and we just jumped in. It was freezing, but it was so fun. We ran out and there was someone in the bushes, so we sprinted back to the rental house.”
These last four years have been successful for Kirsten and next year she plans to go to Boulder Colorado to study biology.
