In the past month, many students from Wenatchee High School garnered awards at the ongoing art show at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
Sophomore Zachary Banken submitted a photograph titled ‘Crash Landing’ which was awarded Best of Show and was sent on to be displayed in Olympia to compete with pieces from around the state. Junior Manuel Laurel was the recipient of a $2,000 waiver for tuition for Central Washington University. In addition to these titles, senior Rylie Sweem was awarded third in the Mixed Media category, while senior Ian Tamngin, junior Courtney Kaech, and junior Natalie Aalgaard were awarded second in Decorative Arts, Three-Dimensional, and Mixed Media, respectively. Art teacher Dan Collins was a mentor for many students that entered the contest. He revealed that 77 pieces were entered from Wenatchee High School students.
“One of the great highlights is that these students have their work on exhibit to see, and that is awesome,” Collins said.
