While Justin Bieber’s fame is more of a source of embarrassment rather than a point of pride, his start on YouTube nevertheless illustrates the power of this social media platform. More than just a site for videos, YouTube is where music careers are born, vloggers are made, pounds are lost, and tears are shed. Why such a phenomenon? People love videos. Here, we compiled the channels we love across the categories that can make you sweat, dance, or cry. If nothing else, they will make the hours go by.

Exercise: Whether you don’t have a gym membership or don’t feel like going to the gym, YouTube offers a wealth of exercise videos easily accessible at home or on the road. Everything from kickboxing, pilates, barre, yoga, dancing, weight lifting, and high intensity interval workouts can be streamed, and plenty of them come from the professional workout videos sold at stores. For instance, BeFIT tailors to both genders by featuring a variety of videos, some of which come from Jillian Michael’s brutal collections. For those that want more of an escape, Tone it Up takes your workouts to the refreshing beaches of California, and trainers Karena’s and Katrina’s bubbly personalities will brighten your day. POPSUGAR Fitness also offers healthy recipes in addition to workouts, which are divided into 40, 30, 10, and even five minutes long. Sorry, your excuse that you don’t have time to exercise is no longer valid.

Makeup: Ten years ago, the term “vlogging” was unheard of, and YouTube wasn’t considered a go-to for style and beauty advice. Then Michelle Phan began posting her practical yet creative makeup tutorials online, and so started a beauty vlogging craze. As the original vlogger, Phan’s channel should be your first stop on YouTube for any makeup or skincare questions. Videos are constantly added, and range from covering beauty basics to more artistic, celebrity-inspired looks, such as a Game of Thrones tutorial. With her name growing into a brand, makeup line, and a publishing deal, her expanded videos into fashion and lifestyle advice. Yet no matter how large Phan gets, she retains that charm that made her successful in the first place. The videos are professional and elegant, the ideas thoughtful and creative, and the tips clever and relatable, as if she is your best friend telling you all the beauty secrets she has discovered.

Music: What is YouTube without music videos? What are music videos without Vevo? Vevo’s channel houses the newest, largest selection of music videos from across genres. An artist just released a single? Check Vevo. Feeling nostalgic and like watching a hit from the ‘90s? Search Vevo. Channels are further organized by artist and can take viewers behind the scenes of the video or the artist’s career. Most of these are mainstream artists, but Vevo also makes a point to highlight up and coming sounds with their On the Rise channel. Some sub-channels have gone beyond music videos altogether, such as the Super Fan Showdown or Do It Yourselfie. The ultimate proof Vevo is legit? Even Weird Al’s videos reside there.

Movies: When searching for movie trailers on YouTube, there are two types of results you are looking for: the serious and the sarcastic. For the authentic trailers, MOVIECLIPS is your safe bet for just released trailers in HD. For the “honest” trailer, go to Screen Junkies and look under Honest Trailers. Here, the channel takes the hottest movies and television shows and merges actual clips and dramatic voice-overs to create a new trailer revealing the work’s flaws. Though not every movie or show is recreated, there is a good range of both new and classic productions to choose from. So if you have a hated flick, YouTube it and relish the five-minute roast. Have a movie you love? Search with caution because what makes these trailers funny is how true they are. In other words, you may never watch Frozen the same way again.

Comedy: When you need a little comic relief in day, YouTube is the perfect place to get your quick fill of laughter rather than watching an entire movie or television episode (Okay, who are we kidding? The black hole of YouTube will get you sucked into spending hours on there anyway.) For one-stop channels, CollegeHumor, Comedy Central, FailArmy, and LifeAccordingToJimmy are good places to start. Of course, you can also search for random clips, the funniest commercials, and/or hilarious scenes from movies and television shows. All of Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync Battles are there as well as Saturday Night Live’s best sketches. A personal favorite? Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Mean Tweets, where celebrities, athletes, and even President Barack Obama read the most offensive 140 characters tweeted about them. Whatever tickles your funny bone, it’s there.

Cute: Sometimes it’s not laughs that you need but “awwws” out of absolute adorableness. For the best combination of puppies, babies, soldiers coming home, confused cats, and any other candid animal moment, subscribe to Tiger Productions or muhaifrancu. Sure you could play with your own dog or adopt a cat, but your own pets are never as excited to see you and who even has a waterbed to have their cat play on? Simply said, everything is cuter, funnier, and easier on screen.
