WHS alumnus named All-American football player
December 9, 2016
Cody O’Connell, a junior at Washington State University and a Wenatchee High School alumnus, was named first-team All-American as an offensive lineman yesterday.
O’Connell was one of three players in the running for the Outland Trophy, which is given to the top offensive lineman in the country. The award was presented to Alabama tackle Cam Robinson last night.
WHS head coach Scott Devereaux says O’Connell is the first All-American football player from WHS in a long time.
“Cody has a bright future, a positive future. The fact that he was a finalist for the Outland Trophy is a huge accomplishment.” Devereaux said.
Devereaux was excited to hear the news of O’Connell’s accomplishment.
“Cody’s pretty humble, you know, he’s focused on the next game but I think he’s excited,” Deveraux said. “He’s got a bit of a reputation and that’s cool.”
Devereaux says if O’Connell stays healthy and keeps improving, he will likely be an NFL draft pick some day.
