The Wenatchee High School swim and dive blew the competition out of the water at the Mukilteo Invitational on Saturday, winning the meet for the first time in history and setting three meet records.

Wenatchee won with a score of 510, 75.5 points ahead of second place. Junior diver Aleah Bucknum qualified for state, as did juniors Hannah Van Heyningen and Jordan Hartley in the 500 freestyle and the 100 meter butterfly respectively.

Senior Isabelle Dressel was Wenatchee’s standout swimmer, setting meet records in three of her four events. She swam in the record-setting 200 meter medley relay and 200 meter freestyle relay with junior Kailie Wulf, Hartley, and freshman Rae Ann Dressel. The freestyle relay record was set by WHS three years ago. Isabelle had been part of the record-setting team as a freshman. Isabelle also set a meet record in the 100 meter breaststroke and won the 50 meter freestyle.

“I think that the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay [times] that we had… are probably the fastest in the state right now,” head coach James Elwyn said.

With Bucknum qualifying for state and senior Alyssa Laney placing eighth overall, dive coach Niklas Peterson was very pleased with Saturday’s performance. He saw the stiff competition as a great opportunity for his divers.

“I think this was the first chance for the girls to see what real potential they have and what can be done in the diving world,” Peterson said. “We’re really happy, the girls are really happy, the coaches are really happy, overall a great experience.”
