As regular season closes, 60 prepare for District track

As the track and field season comes to an end, more and more athletes having top finishes in their meets, with over 60 athletes qualifying for Districts.

Head coach Bob Bullis says this is because the team had so many young and first year track athletes. “It takes awhile for them to settle into the training and competition routine. They have had many opportunities to compete and are working hard.”

 Bullis is excited to have over 60 of his athletes qualify for Districts. “We have worked hard to get to this point and now is the time to rest and focus on the post season. We will do well,” Bullis said.

The Panthers competed in the Richland Twilight on May 9 against 13 other schools.

Freshman Moses Luber placed second in 1,600 meters.

Junior Kristen Nygard placed fourth in high jump. Freshman Eliane Stiles placed fifth in long jump.

On May 7 the team competed against Davis and Moses Lake.

Senior Ryan Wheeler placed first in 100 and 200. Junior Cole Christman placed first in 400. Junior Reid Lovercamp placed first in 800. Junior Justin Pringle placed first in 1,600 and 3,200. Junior Wyatt Long placed first in 110 hurdles. The 4×100 relay team placed first consisting of sophomore T.J. Harris, Chris Rodriguez, Lovercamp, and Wheeler. The 4×400 team placed first with Jordan Hunsacker, senior Sam Martin, Pringle, and Christman. Senior Sam Barnwell placed first in discus. Senior Dillon Sugg placed first in javelin. Sophomore Julien Gibassier placed first in high jump. Senior Andrew Lape placed first in pole vault. Sophomore T.J. Harris placed first in long jump.

Senior Ashley Murie placed first in 1600. Junior Lindsey Wapato placed first in 300  hurdles. Sophomore Rilea Dills placed first in shot put. Senior Alisa Monda placed first in javelin. Junior Alissa Sealby placed first in triple jump.

The team competed in the Keith Jewett Invitational on May 3 at Ellensburg.

Girls placed second out of 12 teams at the meet. Junior Lindsey Wapato placed second in 300 hurdles. Sophomore Mallory Miller, senior Taylor Rathbun, Wapato, and Alexis Heuchert placed second in 4×100. Faulkner, Rathbun, Wapato, and junior Alissa Sealby placed second in 4×200 relay. Senior Jennifer Gould placed second in high jump. Senior Brittany McCrum placed first in pole vault and junior Tessa Britt placed second.

The boys tied for third out of 12 teams. Sophomore Jairo Rodriguez, sophomore Tanner Mooney, freshman Marcus Garcia, and junior Andrew Seims placed second in 4×100 relay. Sophomore Julien Gibassier placed first in high jump and Junior Graham Morgan placed second in triple jump.

“We are all progressing towards Districts in the way we want and everyone is coming closer together as a team,” Gould said. “I think [the coaches] have really stepped it up this year. They seem very eager in helping everyone prepare for their season equally.”

The boys Shoreline Invitational was May 3 agianst at Shoreline Stadium placed 14 out of 50 teams. Sophomore Dalton Sugg placed first in javelin.

April 30 Wenatchee competed against Eisenhower, Sunnyside, and Moses Lake in Yakima. Senior Isaiah Brandt-Sims placed first in 100 and Chris Rodriquez placed second. Wheeler placed first in 200. Lovercamp placed first in 400. Christman placed second in 1,600 and first in 3,200. Junior Wyatt Long placed second in 110 hurdles. Harris, Rodriquez, Lovercamp, and Wheeler placed first in 4×100 relay. Barnwell placed first in shot put and second in discus. Dalton placed first in javelin and senior Dillon placed second. Gibassier placed first in high jump. Lape placed second in pole vault. Harris placed second in long jump.

Wapato placed second in the 100. Rathbun, Faulkner, Sealby, and Wapato placed second in the 4×200 relay. Freshman Jalani Stevens placed second in shot put. Freshman McKenna Norland placed first in high jump and Gould placed second. McCrum placed second in pole vault. Sealby placed second in triple jump.
