ASB to organize Winter formal dance

ASB will be putting on the first ever Winter formal on Dec. 10th in the auditorium. The dance is intended to break up the monotony of the winter months and give all students a chance to experience a formal dance.

Junior Jessica Murray, ASB activities coordinator, is organizing the event. She stated that the goal was “to give underclassmen a prom-like experience as well as students who have events in the spring and can’t attend prom, like band.” Applying to the greater student body, another goal was to give everyone “another opportunity to dress up and have fun with friends.” This dance is unique because WHS has never had a winter dance before, and it will be held on the stage in the auditorium rather than in the commons or in the gym.

The question on many students minds when they learn that there is a school dance is “Do I have to get a date?” Murray says that ASB is “encouraging people to come, either with a date, a friend, or a group of friends.” Elaborate asks, like the ones that are seen around Homecoming or prom, are not necessary for this occasion.

Parsons will not be taking photographs at this event, and the ASB is trying to make this dance as affordable as possible, so they are encouraging students to not go all out. The theme is Winter Wonderland, and the ASB is trying to get as much music variety as as possible. They are looking to include music that represents all the cultures at WHS. Murray plans on making this a reoccurring event, but only if the turnout this year shows promise.

Tickets are $10 for individuals, and the dance is December 10th from 8-10:30 p.m. on the auditorium stage.
