Baseball suffers first loss against Davis

Despite suffering their first loss of the season in the opening game, the Panthers rebounded to take a 6-5 victory in the second game. Garcia was on of the team’s top hitters, batting 2-for-5 for the day.

The doubleheader against Davis on April 18 broke the Wenatchee High School boys baseball team’s winning streak after the Panthers lost 4-1 in the first game, but they won 6-5 in the second game. The Panthers now have an overall record of 5-1.

Leading hitters in the doubleheader on April 18 at Rec Park were sophomore Luke Zahnol who batted 2-for-3, junior Izzy Garcia who batted 2-for-5, and senior CJ Waterman who batted 2-for-4.

In the first game of the doubleheader, sophomore Grady Miller pitched four innings and sophomore Brandon Graves pitched the remaining three.

In the second game Graves pitched five innings while junior Manny Gonzalez and senior Gavin Daniel pitched one inning each.

“The overall team mentality to win is something we strive to embed in our players and it’s showing in our games,” said WHS Coach Jeff Zehnder.

Gonzalez and sophomore Cody Simmons were top hitters in the game against Davis April 14. Junior Kyle Morrison collected an RBI that put the Panthers in the lead in the third inning.

“Our pitchers [pitched] to contact and our defense played solid with some great plays from Jacob Prater,” said sophomore Dalton Harum, who played first base in the Davis game.

“Our offense did really well with situational hits and made few mistakes.”

Daniel pitched the first four innings, and had a no-hitter through the third inning. Graves closed the remaining three innings.

So far the team has played Eisenhower and Davis three times each. The Panthers play a doubleheader on the road on April 25 at 4 p.m. against Eastmont.
