Pep assembly packs gym, fires up crowd

A Wenatchee High School pep assembly on Feb. 7 helped raise money for the Special Olympics and Special Education Prom. Special Education students played basketball with varsity team members, winter sports athletes and staff competed in a pie eating contest with pies donated by Prospector Pies, and Auditorium Manager James Wallace was presented a $2,000 check to go towards auditorium expenses and new equipment.

During the basketball game, an event called “Pack the Gym” originally started by Sumner High School, the purple team competed against the gold team with five special needs students on each team and the WHS boys varsity basketball team helping them up and down the court. The student body immediately got on their feet and celebrated each time a basket was scored, while some special needs students helped lead cheers with the WHS cheerleaders.
