Polar Plunge raises $20,000 for Special Olympics

“Freezin’ for a reason!” shouted Polar Bear Plunge participants as they were doused with water. Held on March 8, people from across the area met at Walla Walla Point Park for the plunge, which raises money for the Washington Special Olympics. Participants were sponsored by anyone willing to chip in for the cause. WHS won the award for Top Fundraising School in a competition with Eastmont. Juniors Francesa Nevil and Christa Dietrich won the award for Best Costume. Due to the low river, the plunge was a little different this year. The Wenatchee Fire Department helped out, and instead, doused the plungers with cold water from hoses. The plunge raised more than $20,000 for Washington Special Olympics.
