Rival powder puff teams prepare for a tough competition

FFA’s powder puff team, “Country Cuties”

Stadium lights, check. Flags, check. Teams, check. The ladies of Wenatchee High School are getting ready to dominate flag football and take down their opponents in order to win the first place title.

Homecoming week is right around the corner and WHS has multiple Powder Puff teams ready to bring it on.

Last year the senior team, Dark Angels, won first place, now the second and third place teams are back and set to win it all.

The 2013 runners up, The  Camo Queens, an FFA team, has declared a comeback. FFA has always had an on going team for every school year. Newly named Buckwild Senior Captain Halle Fox helps lead a melting pot of all four grade levels into battle with their biggest rival, the all senior team, Still Fresh.

Sophomore player Savana Graham encourages the Buckwilds to stay positive and have fun. The night before the game the team will get together, eat out and get crazy, both Graham and Fox said.

It’s all fun and games, but that doesn’t mean these country cuties aren’t willing to give their all.

“Watch out, when you have a group of country girls having fun, we can be unstoppable,” Graham said.

“We’ve got some fast people so watch out — we got the tank; which is me, I’ll run ya’ll over,” Fox said.

Buckwild’s coach sophomore Solho Yepez helps with throwing the ball, making plays, running routes with the girls, and teaching them offense and defense.

“He doesn’t let us mess around and he’s very focused.” Fox said.

Still Fresh, the third-place team in 2013, has been together since freshman year though they were originally Fresh till Death. This year the all-senior team of 18 players aren’t messing around. They plan on doing lots of plays and not just winging it.

Senior coach Britt Parkhill and senior assistant coaches Brady Kuntz and Adam Chvilicek have a positive attitude about this year and are confident Still Fresh can win it all. Parkhill coaches defense, Kuntz offense, Chvilicek plays the role of the team’s mom.

“No competition. Freshman year and last year we got third place, and so I would say we are our biggest competition,” Parkhill said.

Before each game, they huddle together and pray for a victory.

“May the odds be ever in your favor,” Chvilicek said to all of the teams they go up against.
