Schoolhouse Rugby Club off to State competition

Junior Britt Parkhill

The Schoolhouse Rugby Club lost the battle for the number one seed on Saturday following their defeat by the Kent Crusaders in Kent 35-10, bringing their overall record to 8-2.

In order to prepare the State Tournament in Bellevue May 17, the team is getting back to their fundamentals, according to Head Coach Aron Branam.

This loss is coming off a 49-22 victory against the North Idaho Warriors from Post Falls last Saturday.

“[After each match] There is a social food feed with the other team and each team selects the ‘Man of the Match’ for the other team. The Man of the Match is meant to be someone who had a definite positive impact on the outcome of the game and also played clean and respectfully,” Branam said.

“The Man of the Match [for last Saturday’s game] was Britt Parkhill,” Branam said. This marks the first time Parkhill was awarded with this for the season.

Branam also noted honorable mentions, including seniorLuke Melvin and junior Chris Torres.

The Schoolhouse Rugby Club was founded in 2009. According the team’s Facebook page, their mission is to, “bring the great sport of rugby to the youth of Wenatchee Valley.” The team has progressed greatly in the few short years after its inception. Branam owes the team’s success to the, “hard work and dedication the kids have to the team and the game.”
