Shrek the Musical opens with a bang

Fifth grader Maggie Stevens, Junior Maddy Atwood and eighth grader Eloise Sheets, all Fionas, await rescue in the tallest tower.

Wenatchee School District’s Shrek the Musical opened on Thurs., Nov. 14 to a nearly sold out house.

One of the musical’s producers Dodie Pike was in charge of getting a cast of nearly 200 on and off the stage during the opening night performance. “It actually went fairly smoothly. I was so impressed with how calm, cool, and collected all of our cast members were. They didn’t display any opening night jitters,” Pike said.

Jennifer Devereaux, one of the musical’s choreographers was able to watch the show on opening night. “Oh my god, I was in tears I was so happy! It’s amazing the level those kids rise to when they have an audience,” Devereaux said. “It was unbelievable.”

Shrek the Musical runs through Sat., Nov. 23. Tickets are on sale at Pak it Rite for $15 (students) and $18 (adults) or at the door with any remaining tickets.
