Swimming team sends record numbers to State
This morning, an all-time record of 12 Wenatchee High School swim and dive athletes were sent off on their way to the State meet held at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. The WHS team will compete into the weekend.
The 200-yard medley relay team (senior Kayli Elwyn, junior Rebecca Bay, sophomore Kailie Wulf, junior Isabelle Dressel), the 200-yard freestyle relay (freshman Hadassah Lurbur, senior Victoria Peterson, senior Kayli Brown, and VanHeyningen), and the 400-yard freestyle race (sophomore Jordan Hartley, Brown, Bay, and VanHeyningen) will compete at the meet.
Individual swimmers who will participate in the State competition are as follows in order of event. 200-yard freestyle: VanHeyningen, Hartley, and Bay. 200-yard IM: senior Kayli Elwyn. 50-yard free: senior Audrey Parrish and Dressel. 100-yard free: Parrish, Dressel, and senior Tori Peterson. 500-yard freestyle: VanHeyningen and Hartley. 100-yard butterfly: junior Jessica Wierzbicki. 100 back: Wierzbicki and Elwyn. 100-yard breaststroke: Dressel and Bay.
Senior Ali Brandt will compete at State in diving.
The team received two wild cards and will be sending junior Alyssa Laney in diving and Wulf in the 100-yard butterfly as well.
