Vargas takes fourth at State
On Feb. 22 at the State swim meet, sophomore Jared Vargas placed fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.98 and ninth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.58, breaking the school and his personal record in both events.
“I was really happy with how I did, I placed higher than I thought I would [and] I improved on both my races,” said Vargas. “[As a relay] I thought we all performed well, we were all right on our best times. Considering how small our team is compared to everyone else, I thought we did pretty good.”
Vargas, sophomore Austin Boese, freshman Kaleb Pringle, and senior Tommy Higley made up the 200 medley relay, which placed seventeenth with a team best time of 1:44.29.
“Overall we did pretty good, [and] I did my best time in the relay,” Pringle said. “[Going to State] was definitely worth it.”
“The relay and Jared [all got] the best times of the season, which is kind of what your goal is going into State,” Coach James Elwyn said. “Jared broke both of the records, which was a highlight.”
