Volleyball off to a good start; improvement to come
The Wenatchee High School volleyball team came out of last weekend’s Yakima Sundome Tournament with a third place title in their pool.
“Maddi Hallberg had a lot of good kills,” said senior, Ali Marboe, “She filled in really well for Rachel (Leiber).”
Despite missing one of the team’s key players, senior Rachel Leiber, the team appeared to be performing as well as possible.
“Overall we could’ve done better,” said Marboe, “We were kind of lost without Rachel.”
In addition, on Saturday, Sept. 7, the Wenatchee Panthers posted two wins in a four-game volleyball jamboree.
Other schools in the event were Eastmont, Moses Lake, Chelan, and Cascade. The Panthers beat Moses Lake 25-20 and Eastmont 25-17.
WHS Coach LeAnne McGahuey said, “The jamboree is a learning experience, it is a great way to see what we (as a team) are good at, but also to look at what we need to work on.”
McGahuey said a player to look out for this volleyball season would be Rachel Leiber. When interviewed about this season’s team, Leiber said, “We are mending together really well, we are a great team. We have skills we need to work on like our serve receive, but we have a great offense and great hitters.”
Leiber said that the Panthers plan to improve their skills by practicing and running many drills.
The team’s next home game is on Sept. 28 at WHS against Kent Meridian.
