Wenatchee pulls off narrow victory over Eastmont
The Wenatchee High School boys soccer team won their last game on May 10 against Eastmont, 4-3, at the Apple Bowl despite playing without star midfielder Miguel Viramontes. The win cemented the team’s place in the District meets.
Senior Raphael Jimenez played his heart out for his teammates, making 18 saves over the course of the over 90 minute game. Additionally, Jimenez made a critical save in a shootout that allowed Wenatchee to advance to the District second-place game against Sunnyside this Friday. Jimenez was able to keep the game close despite Eastmont outshooting Wenatchee, 34-21.
Josef Johnson scored the final goal for the Panthers, securing the victory.
District championships will be held at Sunnyside on May 13. The State tournament will begin on May 17, and the final game in that series will be played at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.
