Ross said about 150 Washington high schools signed up to be considered for the awards and representatives from the company travel around the state to watch all of the productions, then gather nominees in a fashion similar to the Tony Awards.
Participating schools had their musicals evaluated by two to three theater professionals from from Washington.
The ceremony included performances from the nominated musicals, performances from the leading actor and actress nominees, and a production number with students representing each of the participating schools.
At the choir concert on May 21, Director Paul Atwood and Choral Director Dawn McCormick announced that the 2014 WHS choral department has obtained the rights to the hit Broadway musical Hairspray. Pending contract approvals, the show will hit the WHS stage in November.
