The Wenatchee High School Apple-Ettes ended their first competitive season with a third place in Moses Lake on Feb. 14.

Sophomore Lanae Rodriguez believes the change of competing this year is due to a new coach, who has “started new traditions,” Rodriguez said.

WHS competed in pom and military routines at competitions. Pom uses pom poms and military does not.

“Pom is fun, military is serious, sharper, structured; it’s not as flowy,” Rodriguez said. “I like both.”

The Apple-Ettes went to a competition in Quincy on Jan. 31, where they placed first for their pom routine and second for their military routine in the 4A school division.

On Feb. 14, the Apple-ettes traveled to Moses Lake to compete, and placed third for their military routine.

Their competition season is over now as they are not going to the Regional competition. However, they will still perform at school events and in the Apple Blossom Grand Parade.

“The whole experience of actually competing was really fun,” senior captain Sara Alvarado said. Alvarado said that she liked watching other teams and gaining experience at competition, and wishes that she had competed sooner in her high school career. “It took a lot of hard work and effort, that hard work paid off [when we placed].”
