ASB candidates learn results following primaries
The primary round of ASB elections concluded on April 10 and the remaining candidates were announced. Juniors Daniel Arndt and Luke Carlson are the candidates for president, juniors Matt Murray and Josey Meats are the candidates for vice president, and junior Ana Nelson and sophomore Sean Kelley are the candidates for secretary. The two students running for ASB treasurer junior Jackson Powell and sophomore Keyla Sanchez moved on automatically because they are the only ones running for that position.
The initial ASB election speeches gave most of the 12 candidates the opportunity to show off their personalities and encourage fellow students to vote, during a schoolwide assembly on April 9.
The presidential speeches gave the student body a clear representation of each candidate’s personality. Juniors Madeline Steitz, Britt Parkhill, Carlson, and Arndt, made up the competition for ASB president this year, which is higher than in past years.
Each student gave their reasoning for why they should be elected and portrayed their goals for the coming year. All three vice president candidates: Murray, Meats, and junior Angel Guzman, are looking to spice up the life at Wenatchee High School. Guzman felt really good about his speech. “If I were elected, I am going to start something, I’m not going to start off slow,” Guzman said.
Sophomore Audrey Parrish, Nelson, and Kelley were the three candidates for the secretary position. “Everyone’s speeches were very unique and showed everyone’s true character, which is funny,” Parrish said.
Parrish believes her speech went well but wishes she had incorporated more humor, “My speech wasn’t funny, but I am,” Parrish said.
Powell and Sanchez will give their first speeches during the second round of elections on April 15.
Another assembly will be held on April 15 for the final elections. Officers will be announced April 16 for the 2014-2015 school year.
