Junior Jacob Prater, second baseman for the team chases his opponent back to first base on an attempted steal on March 23. Prater’s batting record for the game was three for three, however the Panthers lost 3-2 against Sumner.

The Wenatchee High School baseball team had a disappointing loss on March 23 against Sumner where the Varsity team was defeated 3-2 in the final minutes of the game.

“It was a good game, a lot of things happened. They just managed to score in the last minutes of the game and we couldn’t manage to make a comeback,” sophomore Brandon Graves said, who played against Sumner.

Despite good batting by the team, it was not enough to hold onto the Panther’s early lead.

“We lost our focus in the fourth inning and we weren’t as intense,” Jacob Prater said, who scored one of the runs in the game.

Top batters were juniors Jacob Prater who was three for three and Manny Gonzalez who was one for two.

Sophomore Grady Miller, a pitcher for the team, struck out six Sumner players. Miller pitched three innings giving up only one hit with no runs scored.

“This program hopes to achieve a suitable place where the athletes are respectable players on and off the diamond,” Head Coach Jeff Zehnder said.

The team’s next game will take place on March 26 against Selah on the road.
