Boys baseball buckles down
The Rec Park crowd roared as junior Jacob Prater hit a triple in the May 2 doubleheader against Sunnyside to tie the Wenatchee High School record for the most triples hit in a single season.
The Panthers won the first game, 3-2, and also closed the second game with a 4-1 win. The team has a record of 11-4 in league games.
With the team in a good position for playoffs, the Wenatchee baseball team is preparing for the most important games of the season in the weeks to come, with an important one being the game against Davis May 6 at home. The Panthers need to win this one in order to continue on to playoffs.
On May 9, the Panthers, third in the league currently, also had another doubleheader against Big Nine League champions Moses Lake, winning the first game 6-4 and coming back in the second game to win 4-5 after being down 4-0 in the first three and a half innings.
The comeback started right after Prater hit a three-run homer, allowing the Panthers to rally.
“Once Prater hit that (home run) the whole team rallied and we managed to pull out a tough win through our solid offense and defensive plays,” sophomore Brandon Graves said, who also pitched six innings in the opening game of the doubleheader, allowing only seven hits and four runs.
The win against Moses Lake brought a new air of hope into the Panthers’ demeanor.
“I’m really excited for the team not only for this year, but for next year as well because we are a young and talented team,” sophomore Cody Simmons, who caught both games of the doubleheader on May 2 against Sunnyside.
