Wenatchee High School’s former baseball coach and PE teacher Ed Knaggs will take his termination appeal to Chelan County Superior Court on Friday, Nov. 15.

Knaggs was fired in 2012 following the drowning death of freshman Antonio Reyes in the high school pool. Knaggs appealed that decision, which was debated in an administrative hearing in March. The hearing officer upheld Wenatchee School District’s original decision to terminate Knaggs.

The hearing officer’s decision was then appealed by Knaggs and his attorney Quentin Batjer. The next step takes the appeal to Superior Court. Judge Lesley Allan will make a ruling after the case is presented during a hearing that will last no more than two hours.

Knaggs has been added to the fall staff of the Applesox as a part time consultant. He’s working on five “ballpark improvement projects,” said Applesox owner Jim Corcoran.

Batjer and Wenatchee School District’s attorney, Joe Derrig of Patterson Buchanan law firm in Seattle, have both declined to comment on any circumstances in the case.

Knaggs has confirmed that he is still requesting to get his job back and be paid all back wages.
