Debate places in top 16
The Wenatchee High School Public Forum team of junior Wallace O’Donnell and freshman Vivian Noyd broke to Octas, meaning they made it to the top 16 in their category at the State Speech and Debate Team Tournament on March 22. They lost after breaking, but were ninth seed.
Junior Kiana Wilson was the highest placer from Wenatchee High School at the State Speech and Debate Individual Events Tournament, taking third place overall in Interpretive Reading. The tournament took place at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma on March 17.
“Kiana is a hard worker who independently really knows how to develop her piece,” said Coach Dave Carlson. “It really paid off [this year], last year she was just a finalist and this year she moved up to third, so we’re hoping for a State title next year. [She] definitely has the drive and ability to rise above and keep improving.”
The debate team is done for the season, but some members will travel to Nationals in June.
