Diversity Club spreads religion awareness leading up to Christmas
Reading facts about various world religions over morning announcements and posting facts throughout the halls of Wenatchee High School has been the effort of Diversity Club to raise awareness about the different religions within WHS and around the world.
“The goal of the World Religion facts is to make all students feel welcome,” Diversity Club adviser Danielle Schafer-Cloke said. “Christmas time can be uncomfortable for students of other faiths.”
The club wants to educate students about the various traditions, customs, and facts about other religions and to promote acceptance, according to senior Diversity Club president Ariana Keyser.
“[The world religion facts] is a good idea. It gets other people to see what other religions are about. Some stuff I already knew. Some stuff I did not know,” junior Michael Price said.
Sophomore Michael Meyers agrees.
“I think they’re interesting and cool to see,” Meyers said. “It shows what other people’s beliefs are around the world.”
The club plans to continue to educate the student body about other topics such as Black history month, women’s rights, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender), and other topics, similar to what they have done with world religion.
Diversity Club will also host February’s Day of Beauty, a day where students are encouraged to go without makeup and embrace natural beauty.
