FBLA hosts pumpkin carving event

Wenatchee High School’s Future Business Leaders of America held a volunteer event on Oct. 29 at the Bruce Transitional Housing to help children carve pumpkins for Halloween. The club has held the event for the past seven years.

WHS had 12 student volunteers participate in the event. Many of the high school students who attended the event enjoyed interacting with the kids.

“Seeing the look on the kid’s faces as they carved the pumpkins. Seeing them happy in the end was worth it,” senior Caleb Barahona said.

There were more than 13 kids who, for most, carved a pumpkin for the first time in their lives, business teacher Loren Brown said.

“Working with young kids and seeing the high schoolers interact with them, it was a good experience to provide the kids,” Brown said.

The event was sponsored in part by both Albertsons and Safeway, which provided the pumpkins. The pumpkins were valued at more than $50.

FBLA takes part in numerous volunteer events throughout the school year. From the Homecoming rose sale held Oct. 20- 24 to the Easter egg hunt held annually at the Bruce Transitional Housing in the spring, similar to the pumpkin carving event.
