Food and music fiesta to raise funds for WHS Mariachi
On Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. Wenatchee High School will be hosting Mariachi’s Fall Fiesta. The fiesta will be held in the new commons area, featuring the three Mariachi classes and Mariachi dance group.
“It’s the first performance of the year,” said Mariachi Director Ramon Rivera. “It’s a great time for the kids to perform.”
The fiesta is an annual event, showcasing a variety of Mexican food to accompany the music and general party demeanor. Sale of the food helps fund instrument purchases and trips. “We try our hardest to keep Mariachi a free program,” said Rivera. “Some students can’t afford to pay, so we do things like the Fall Fiesta to keep Mariachi free.”
Liliana Fausto, the Mariachi class president, said that the fiesta is “a way for each class to show their songs and what they have learned.” The event is for fun and open to everyone in the community. “It’s a chance for Mariachi class periods 4 and 5 to be heard. They don’t get much chance to besides this,” said Fausto.
The fiesta could potentially attract up to 400 family members. “The fiesta is meant to bring the families together,” said Rivera. “The Latino family in Wenatchee, too. If you like Mexican food and good music, what’s stopping you?” said Rivera. “You can’t beat Mexican food and music.”
