Football win puts team one step closer to league championship

October 27, 2014

The Wenatchee defense played a big role in Friday’s showdown game by keeping Moses Lake out of the end zone in the Panthers 20-3 win that qualified the team for the state playoffs.

The Panther defense was led by senior Chase Resch, who had a career night by picking off the Chiefs’ quarterback three time and tying the school record with 17 interceptions in a cereer. Senior defensive end Ross Martin and linebacker Ben Holmberg also had big nights of their own by making multiple key stops against Moses Lake’s running attack. “It makes my job so much easier when we have guys like them up front stopping the run.” Resch said.

“It was just another game baby,” said Resch, who ran all over the Chiefs defense on the rainy senior night with 197 yards and a touchdown. Junior running back Joe Sells also found the end zone and ended with 43 yards rushing.

The Panthers didn’t have to rely on their passing game much on Friday but when they decided to go through the air junior quarterback Brandon Graves was on point. Graves ended with 98 yards passing and tossed a touchdown to senior receiver Killion McGinnis for 27 yards.

Next week the Panthers travel to Yakima for their final regular season game with the goal of clinching the league title against West Valley. All Panther football games can be heard on Z-country 94.7 FM.
