Grothe honored by WACA
Brent Grothe, Wenatchee High School’s leadership teacher and activities coordinator, has been inducted into the Washington Activity Coordinators Association’s Hall of Fame.
According to the WACA website, the purpose of the Hall of Fame is “to honor individuals who have made a significant, lasting impact on student activities in the state of Washington. Recipients of the award have demonstrated leadership and dedication to providing high quality programs at the school, district and state level.”
Grothe was nominated by former student and current teacher at Sumner High School, John Norlin. Norlin was the Associated Student Body president in 1997-1998.
“The honor of it is that John nominated me,” Grothe said. “I have a great deal of respect and admiration for John, I love him as a friend, and he’s a good man, and so for him to nominate me for the award is definitely the part of the award that I find the most special.”
Even with this astounding achievement, Grothe does not credit only himself for his success as an activity coordinator.
“Students do all the work, and I just kind of guide and advise in my job, but I work with very talented people,” Grothe said. “It’s an honor so serve with students that do that kind of work and schools that support that kind of work, I’m thankful that Wenatchee School District supports this position.”
The Hall of Fame has only 26 inductees, including Grothe, since it was established in 2002, but Grothe is not one to brag about his achievements.
“I’ve been an activity coordinator for 20 some years, and I think that’s part of the deal,” he said. “If you’ve been around awhile and you haven’t died in your job, I think they let you have a Hall of Fame award.”
