Instrumentalists outplay competition at Solo and Ensemble
Ten Wenatchee High School students won their categories in the instrumental portion of Solo and Ensemble took place on Feb. 6.
Junior Christina Heater won her category for Flute-Piccolo solo, freshman Taber Land won his category for violin, senior Rhiannon Schaub also won her category for cello, junior Alex Paquette was the Alto-Bass Clarinet winner, junior Kendal Buak won the Clarinet category, senior Erin Wisemore, junior Madalynne Lalanne won the Woodwinds-Small with their clarinet duet. Senior Kevin Wilson won Soprano-Alto Saxophone. Junior Andy Schmidt won Multiple Percussion. Senior Dylan Ryan won Snare Drum.
“I feel that this was one of our strongest years,” Band Director Jim Kovach said. “I’m so proud of our students.”
WHS choir students competed in the annual vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest on January 30.
Sophomore Eloise Sheets placed as First Alternate in Mezzo Soprano and junior Megan Sawyer placed Second Alternate in Alto. The group WHS Bel Canto Duet, consisting of sophomores Diego Tornabene and Joseph Poulson placed first alternate in Men’s Vocal-Small.
