Knowledge Bowl places in top 10 statewide
The Wenatchee High School Knowledge Bowl team came in 10th place on March 22, at the Washington Knowledge Bowl State Tournament in Arlington.
Students going to State were seniors Bridget Dowd, Daniel Poulson, Alexa Andre, Riley Rohman, Sophia Nordt, and freshman Brandon Fitzgerald. The team has been preparing all the season since November by practicing twice a week after school with their coach, English teacher Chris Cloke.
“There was some tough competition but we held up and buzzed in at the right time. We all had a lot of fun too, so that made it a great experience,” Andre said.
Contestants participated in five rounds, one written and four oral, each one comprised of 60 questions. The questions were based in high school classes, pop culture, and current events.
Sixth is the highest that Wenatchee has ever placed in State. “Our goal of the season was to make it to State, so we accomplished that,” Cloke said. “Also we were hoping to place in the top nine, but we just missed it, but we did meet our season goal.”
WHS finished ahead of Moses Lake, Richland, Pasco, and Gonzaga Prep. The only team from eastern Washington that finished ahead of WHS was Mead. There were 18 teams at State.
