Senior Kris Garrett receives the Athlete of the Week award with Sea Gal Jessica.

The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink Inc. and Q13 FOX named senior Kris Garrett the fourth week CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week.

Garrett will be officially announced as the recipient today during Wenatchee High School’s pep assembly. Vice President and General Manager of CenturyLink of Seattle Sue Anderson and a Sea Gal will attend the assembly to present the award. Q13 FOX has been invited to attend as well.

During the Seattle Seahawks Oct. 13 game against the Tennessee Titans, he will be recognized on the CenturyLink Field.

According to Athletic Director BJ Kuntz, she received a phone call on Sept. 23 notifying her Garrett was chosen. He was nominated by his mother, Tammie Garrett, for his involvement in football, wrestling, extracurricular, and community activities like DECA, and serving as a student ambassador for the Town Toyota Center.

“I had no idea what it was, or who nominated me, or why they would have picked me,” said Kris. “I was shocked [when notified] but once I got over it, I was pretty stoked.”

As a recipient, Kris will receive two Seahawks game tickets and sideline passes, a personalized 2013 Nike Seahawks jersey, a custom Seahawks football, a special letterman patch, and additional media coverage. $1,000 will also be granted to the WHS ASB fund. Kuntz said Kris will help decide how the money will be used.

According to Senior Media Relations and Marketing Manager of CenturyLink of Seattle Meg Andrews, executives from the Seattle Seahawks and CenturyLink choose a high school athlete from Washington each week based on performance in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. The second-year program runs from August through November, and donated $10,000 to schools in the previous year.

“CenturyLink is honored to partner with the Seattle Seahawks and Q13 FOX on this great program, “said Anderson.  “We believe in developing the potential of area student athletes and supporting their efforts in the community, both on and off the field.”
