Every year, right before the big basketball game between Eastmont and Wenatchee High School. Both schools ASB works together to fundraise enough money to fulfill a child’s wish. Litterbox was on Feb. 10 and a Make-A-Wish fundraiser concerning a Wenatchee school district seven year old had gone on throughout the high school and beyond. The little girl’s name is Ella and she was hospitalized with an autoimmune disease. Ella’s wish, like many of the students have heard, is to go to Disneyland by train and our high school’s student leaders were determined to make it come true. Wenatchee’s student body, or the ASB, spearheaded this project.

Sophomore senate president Laura Diaz shed some light on the wish.

“When we play Litterbox, we contact the Make-A-Wish Foundation and we try to find a recipient that can attend the game, and that has a wish that we’re in the power to be able to make it come true,”said Diaz

The ASB came around to each of the classes during second period and collected donations that went towards Ella and her cause.

“Each second period, if they donated enough money, you win. Whichever second period donates the most money gets a pizza party. It was Ms. Jensen’s class,” said Diaz

Every year, Eastmont and Wenatchee compete against each other to win all of the Litterbox competitions, from raising the most amount of donations to winning the most points in the big basketball tournament.

“At the actual game, they had a big check with money that Eastmont and Wenatchee fundraised and Eastmont ended up raising more money than us,” Diaz said. “They raised seven thousand [dollars] and we raised five thousand [dollars], which was pretty good.”

The raised expenses was more than enough for the seven year old’s train ride and the rest raised goes towards the actual trip to Disneyland. In fact, Ella even attended the Battle of the Bridges basketball game so she could meet some of the leaders who brought this goal to life for her.

“She went on the gym floor and waved to everyone. She was so cute,” Diaz recalled what she saw of the girl. “I’m glad that we were able to raise enough money for it to come true, ‘cause she’s such a sweet girl.”
