Mariachi Huenachi performs for national audience
Wenatchee High School’s award-winning mariachi band, Mariachi Huenachi, is in the statewide spotlight once again at a Seattle Sounders soccer game vs. the New York Red Bulls on Sept. 29.
The mariachi performed during the pre-game and halftime festivities at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, according to director Ramon Rivera. Their performances were aired nationally on the ESPN cable network.
Mariachi Huenachi has earned a reputation as the best high school mariachi band in the state. Last year, they opened a show for Mariachi Vargas, which is known as the “best mariachi in the world,” according to a press release from Rivera.
“I am really excited and honored to play on the same field they (the Sounders) get to play on,” said senior Gilberto Sanchez, “because I am a soccer player and one of my favorite players (Eddie Johnson) is on the team.”
Mariachi Huenachi is made up of 25 members who frequently perform across the state.
