Semi-annual blood drive saves over 150 lives
Wenatchee High School students may have noticed the Health Occupations class dressed in their scrubs while sitting behind a table with sign up sheets. The semi-annual blood drive was held Sept. 30 through Oct. 1. The results: a total of 52 donors, both students and teachers. This translates to about 156 lives saved.
They were just shy of their goal of 57 students.
“I think it went really well,” WHS Health Occupations teacher Mitzi Southard said. “The Health Occ. students worked really well and we want to continue the awareness to the need.”
The next drive is going to be a two-day event around May 2 and May 3. Southard hopes to hold the next blood drive in one of the gyms where they have “a little bit better volume.”
Southard also hopes to show the importance of the blood drive.
“I just want to get the message out there that when we donate blood we may be saving a friend, or a loved one, or your own life. When you donate blood, the life you save could be your own.”
