Senior presentations and conferences create half days this week
All students will be released at noon on Tuesday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 5. Seniors and juniors will return to the school at 6 p.m. and stay until 7:15 p.m. on March 4 for senior presentations. Parent teacher conferences will span from 5-7:30 p.m. on March 5.
“[Senior presentations] are a sort of overview. They explain ‘where have I been, how I got there, and where I am going,’” Cindy Murie, a student services administrator, said. “If you want to go to college, tech school, or start right into work, it shows where the last 12 years of school led you and how that schooling can aid you [in the future].”
Senior presentations are a state graduation requirement. The process of senior presentations was chosen by Wenatchee High School. “It’s required by the state, but we can choose how to develop [how that requirement is met],” Murie said. “We chose the route of culminating project and a portfolio, which helps a student with high school and beyond.”
A new installment to the presentations is junior observation.
“We [administrators] thought it might be a good idea [for juniors] to see what next year would look like for their own presentations,” Murie said.
“Over the years we’ve noticed a pattern – there are certain times when juniors and seniors get really anxious, and that’s usually around the time of senior presentations,” Dean of Students Mike Franza said. “We thought that having juniors observe would help them feel more prepared for the next year and more confident in themselves.”
Daily class schedules will be available in the main office for the altered schedules on these days.
