Seniors secure spot at State cross country meet

October 27, 2016

Seniors Moses Lurbur and Aria Tornabene overcame adverse weather conditions to place fourth and tenth in their respective races at the District 6 4A Cross Country Championship at Walla Walla park today. Their times earned them a place in the 4A WIAA State Cross Country Meet in Pasco on Nov. 5.

Despite dampened conditions, Lurbur ran the course in 16 minutes and 21 seconds, a personal record for the course. Tornabene finished the course with a time of 20:19.

“The conditions were a little less than ideal, but we’ve trained and worked for this,” Lurbur said.

Tornabene was exhilarated to perform so well in her final home meet, but her success was bittersweet.

“Cross country has been the highlight of high school for me. I’m sad that this era is over for me,” Tornabene said.

Overall, Wenatchee girls runners placed third at the meet, and the boys team took fourth. Eisenhower won both the boys and girls varsity races.
