Students elect next senate
The 2014-15 freshmen, sophomore, and junior class student senate members for Wenatchee High School have been voted for and selected.
The students were chosen over the course of several assemblies where candidates read speeches and peers from their class voted.
The elected senate members are:
Class of 2017 — Alexandra Sinay-Smith (President), Tobi Butler, Madi McLaughlin, Lizbeth Valencia, Sabrina Zhu.
Class of 2016 — Megan Sand (President), Christian Brandt-Sims, Savannah Brass, Dustin Jackson, and Ethan Knutson.
Class of 2015 — Andrew Johnson (President), Lexi Heuchert, Kaela Kapeikis, Eduardo Ramos, and Oscar Valencia.
The president was chosen by interview, out of those five, by ASB Adviser Brent Grothe and elected ASB officers. The president is eligible to go to leadership camp and has to be in sixth period student government where she or he can function as a go-between with other senate members.
“At first, I was nervous but then I realized I might as well give it my best shot,” Sand said. “I got elected, then I thought, ‘Why don’t I run for president?’ I want to be involved in ASB and do more to be involved my senior year. I want to try something new.”
The groups will work closely with Grothe and each other to help improve the school.
“[Things are going] so far, so good,” Grothe said. “I liked especially the speeches done by the class of 2017 – they seemed sincere about creating a stronger, more positive climate here at WHS. Their responsibilities will be to help run Homecoming, plan school-wide projects and events, invite guest speakers, fundraise, and do their specific class responsibilities.”
