Hairspray tickets on sale as cast buckles down

The tickets for the musical production Hairspray go on sale Oct. 10. Since the auditions in early September, the practices have been going well and the directors are looking forward to the debut.

“Things are looking good so far. There are a lot of new students from the freshman class, providing new characters, and students from the past who are more experienced provide great leadership,” producer Selina Danko said.

The performers are also looking forward to the upcoming play. “It’s been going really great. Everyone’s really supportive and nice,” said freshman Luke Ferrell, who plays one of the lead roles, Link Larkin. Even though he’s a freshman playing one of the big roles, he’s been enjoying his time getting to know his co-performers and working on his acting skills.

Senior Marnie Rimes, who plays Penny Pingleton, adds that even though she’s having a lot of fun making new friends and practicing her role, the practices are soon going to get a lot harder and longer. “I’m not looking forward to that,” Rimes said.

All hope that the ticket sales will be productive. “We’re having a kind of showcase at the assembly on Thursday, and I think that will — hopefully — help raise the ticket sales,” Ferrell said. Danko also voiced that she thinks that the sales will be “very successful.”

“Every play is special and unique in it’s own way. When it comes down to it, the community knows that WHS delivers in its production.” Danko said when asked how they thought that this production would compare to the productions in the past.

Rimes had a slightly different opinion, saying, “Nothing compares to the Phantom of the Opera production that I was a part of a few years ago, but this is still my senior show and that makes it special to me.”

Whether or not Hairspray will be the best production WHS has ever produced comes down to your own opinion. “Everyone should get a ticket — it’s a good message and has great music,” Danko said.
