Dual-effort Nutcracker a success
Fabulous Feet Dance Studio and The Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra performed Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet The Nutcracker at the Performing Arts Center of Wenatchee on Dec. 14-15.
This is the first time the two organizations have collaborated in performing the Christmas classic. The combined talent of the two organizations drew a notable attendance of around 400 people, and a worthwhile performance.
“I’ve learned a whole bunch with working with the orchestra and dancing with other people,” said Fabulous Feet dancer junior Jace Pauly.
Several Wenatchee High School students had stage time during the event, including Pauly, who had the role of the Prince. Out of the total of 70 dancers that performed, Pauly estimates about 10 of them attend Wenatchee High School. Twenty-four musicians from the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra were in the event.
“The Nutcracker has been fun to do because of its Classical approach,” said Fabulous Feet dancer sophomore Anna Fleming. “[Fabulous Feet] usually does more modern things, so it’s been fun doing the different style.”
“It was one of the best shows Wenatchee had with the Nutcracker,” said sophomore Megan Sand. “The practices were overwhelming, but it turned out amazing. It was really fun to be part of,”
Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra director Nikolas Caoile and Fabulous Feet director Melissa Miller Port wish to unify Fabulous Feet and the Symphony Orchestra again in the future.
“This has been a momentous occasion. It took a lot of work, but it really came together,” said Port.
