Town Auto Group teams up with WHS for community-wide food drive with big incentive
Wenatchee High School’s 4×4’s for Food Drive against Eastmont High School kicked off Nov. 1 at the assembly and will conclude Dec. 14 with a $6,666 reward for the winning school.
WHS is competing against EHS for collecting the most non-perishable food. Businesses in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee like Local Tel, Rebecca’s, Cycle Central, Carlos 1800, Mike’s Meats, Wenatchee Wild, and High Mountain Hunting Supply are sponsoring this event.
Cary Condotta, owner of Condotta’s Motorsports, is in charge of organizing the event. The winner between the two schools will receive $6,666 for their school and the loser will receive only $3,333 from Town Auto Group and Condotta.
The community can get involved by donating to one of the locations sponsoring the event. Each location has a place to donate where donors can mark the canned food with a specific color to indicate which school they are donating for. Donations for Wenatchee can go to Town Nissan or Town Chrysler Jeep Dodge.
Assistant Principal Gracie Helm is heading up the WHS part of the competition. “We’ve started off a little slow but since some of the people helping with it are involved in Shrek, when Shrek is over we will gain momentum,” Helm said.
The canned food will be donated to three organizations: Serve Wenatchee, Salvation Army, and Lighthouse Ministries. WHS has already received about $140 in cash donations, which are encouraged for a shopping spree at the end of the competition using all of the money donations.
The incentive for students set by Helm and the ASB is an hour-long lunch students would receive if WHS won the competition. Students who want to contribute can place their donations in the main entrance. Helm and the ASB set a goal for every student to bring five pounds of nonperishable food items by Dec. 5 for the hour-long lunch to take place on Dec. 6.
