Unified basketball highlights recognition assembly
February 5, 2016
Students cheered as the Unified basketball team ran into the Wenatchee High School main gym today during the celebration/spirit assembly. Many were on their feet, welcoming the Special Olympics athletes and their varsity basketball partners to the game.
The WHS drum line and cheerleading team also performed at the event.
The athletes were separated into two equal teams. One with white jerseys, and one with purple jerseys. The purple team was victorious with a final score of 22-20.
Students donated $650 during the assembly to help fund the Special Education Prom that will held this spring.
Health and fitness specialist Shelly Jelsing organized the event.
“With my students and this class in general, they are just so accepting and loving of everybody,” she said. “I think that this game to them makes them feel like a huge part of this school, like celebrities. I’m so impressed with our student body. How we treat these kids is amazing, I’m so proud of it.”
Top students were recognized by department heads and assembly emcee Brent Grothe announced special honors for various clubs and activities for first semester.
