UPDATE: Reinstated basketball coach resigns
Wenatchee High School freshman boys basketball coach Brandon Hobson resigned last night following a meeting with players, parents, head boys coach Ron Stone, new freshman boys coach Patrick Loftus, and Principal Bob Celebrezze.
“It’s for personal reasons that I quit,” Hobson said. “I would say it was well received by parents and players.”
Stone declined to comment on Hobson’s resignation.
Hobson and Stone were placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 15 while the district investigated a personnel matter involving lewd text messages between the two coaches that were intercepted by players on the varsity team, according to The Wenatchee World.
The district’s investigation determined that the coaches were eligible to return to duty, and both coaches were reinstated on Wednesday evening. Hobson’s resignation came approximately 24 hours following his reinstatement.
“I’ve enjoyed every moment of my coaching days at Wenatchee High School,” Hobson said. “I’ve enjoyed coaching and I’ll miss it.”
Stone will continue to coach the varsity boys basketball team, and Dean of Students Mike Franza, who filled Stone’s role during his leave, will remain with the team as an assistant to Stone.
