The second annual We Day Seattle conference will take place on March 21 at KeyArena, Seattle. The event will host more than 15,000 students from across Washington state.

We Day was started by Craig and Marc Kielburger, two brothers from Canada who are the founders of Free The Children. Their mission is to show young people that they have the power to make a difference in the world.

Fifteen Wenatchee High School students will be traveling to We Day Seattle, including senior Tara Heuple who attended last year’s convention and met the Kielburgers. “They believe our generation has the power to change the world,” Heuple said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the kids reactions who we are taking.”

The 2014 lineup will be released in early March.

According to their website, www.weday.com, “We Day is an educational event and the movement of our time — a movement of young people leading local and global change. We Day is tied to the yearlong We Act program, which offers curricular resources, campaigns and materials to help turn the day’s inspiration into sustained activation.”

We Day consists of guests speakers, and performers to motivate young people to make a difference in the world and in their communities.

The first-ever We Day started in northeastern Canada and spread like wildfire over the year to five other cities in Canada.

The We Day Seattle is the only We Day available in the United States. Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll came up with the idea of bringing We Day to Seattle. He ended up speaking at last year’s conference alongside others, including Jennifer Hudson, Demi Lovato, and surprise guest Macklemore.
