Wenatchee DECA students sail to state
The Wenatchee High School DECA program sent 83 students to the DECA Area 10 Conference in Yakima on Jan. 10. WHS had 63 students place in the top three for their event and qualify for State.
In the 28 events, 23 WHS students received first-place awards, 12 finished in second place, and 12 finished third. The top three finishers in each event will be competing at DECA State Conference in Bellevue on March. 4.
The Area 10 competition hosted 13 Central Washington high schools and more than 350 students according to WHS DECA adviser Matt Pakinas.
State DECA president and senior Kori Martin placed first in Human Resource Management; she is already looking forward to nationals.
“We overall did a really good job [at DECA Area 10]. I feel like we have the potential to do really well at Nationals,” Martin said.
