Wenatchee High School varsity football team takes on Mead High School in the first game of the season

September 8, 2015

The stands were packed with students and excited anticipation for the first game of the 2015 football season. Unfortunately the new student stands and Astroturf field couldn’t power the Panthers to a victory.  The Wenatchee Panthers fought it out with the Mead Panthers to a disheartening Wenatchee defeat of 19 to 43.

The Wenatchee team was missing some key players for this game, including senior TJ Harris. Senior Joe Sells also left the game early due to injuries.

Coach Devereaux felt like there were just too many mistakes made by Wenatchee, but is confident in the strength of the Wenatchee football team.

“I don’t think that team is much better than we are, we just made some mistakes. You can’t fumble the ball or have as many penalties as we did,” Devereaux said. “You can’t give up the two long touchdown passes.”

Devereaux sees this loss as an opportunity for improvement.

“Were gonna make improvements on this game. We are going to watch the film, we’re gonna fix our mistakes,” Devereaux said. “Tonight we weren’t clicking.”
