Wenatchee varsity girls soccer takes down Archbishop Murphy

September 10, 2016

The Wenatchee High School varsity girls soccer team claimed a narrow victory over Archbishop Murphy in a nail-biter, 4-3.

Junior Allie Flynn scored first for Wenatchee, the first goal of her hat trick. Archbishop answered back almost immediately to tie the game.

Sophomore Kate Springer snuck a shot past the Archbishop keeper off of a corner kick, giving Wenatchee the slight edge. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Wildcats answered  with another goal. The game was tied 2-2 at the half.

“The girls were frustrated because they let Archbishop into their heads,” Wenatchee coach John Springer said.

Flynn’s aggressive play put the Wildcats on their heels, as she was able to drive in a go-ahead score. That goal was answered by Archbishop as well.

Fortunately for the Panthers, the Wildcats weren’t able to answer a coordinated effort by several Panther players that culminated in Flynn rocketing the ball out of the reach of Archbishop’s keeper for the final goal.

“The last goal showed how much we wanted to win,” Flynn said. “We came together at the right time, and I think that shows just how good we’re going to do this season.”
